Prom Hair Trends for 2009

It's one of the biggest nights of your life and you want your hairstyle to be extra-special! There's more to consider when deciding how to wear your hair for the prom including a flattering syle for your face and your prom dress and a style that will last through the celebration and look great all night long. For many prom girls, it's the first time you have worn a long or formal gown and you'll want to be sure you choose the best style for you.

Wavy Hair is Wonderful for Prom

If you're blessed with naturally wavy hair, you're lucky this year. Long wavy hair with soft curls or waves is the hottest trends in 2006. This look is created with large rollers or large-head curling iron and the waves are left to fall gently. Don't brush your hair, just separate the waves with your figures and apply a gently hold hairspray. To add a sparkly shine, spray a little 'glass' or shine serum product as a final touch.

Part your hair wherever it suits you best and keep the style flat on top with very light or no bangs. For a little extra interest, add subtle highlights to add a fresh look. Don't go for high contrast highlights as they will compete with your dress for attention. Wavy hair, just past shoulder length looks hot with strapless prom dresses and gowns.

Go Short & Sassy with Lots of Style

Short hair can be stunning for a party look as long as you give it a little extra styling so it has lots of punch. Don't just wash it and style, add shine products or hair mousse or wax to heighten the style and enhance waves or curls. Be sure your makeup has a little extra sparkle to set off your best facial features which will be center stage with a short do. Add dangling or chandelier earrings, or a classy crystal necklace to compliment your neck and face.

Sweep it Up

For a truly elegant, sleek and hot celeb look, especially if you have a gorgeous long neck, sweep your hair up into a chignon or French twist. Experiment with the position—top, middle or bottom of head for the style that suits you. Updos are always classic evening/party styles and this year the look is very simple and sleek...gone is the messy look with stray hair and curls. Use mousse or gel to tame curls and waves and include bangs if they suit your face shape best. Highlight your face and neckline with crystals for a truly sparkling look.

Prom Ponytails are Hot!

For an easy prom hairstyle that can be accessorized with sparkly bands or hairpins, go for a pretty ponytail. Again, position the ponytail on your head where it suits your face shape best...with or without bangs is fine. For something a little special, try an offset ponytail to one side with side-swept bangs. Be sure to cover the band with a strand of hair, or better yet find a sparkly ponytail wrap made with beads or crystals for a lovely accessory. Don't forget the gel or hair wax and shine or gloss spray for the final touch to help your ponytail style stay neat and comfortable.
